Sculptures
The steel sculpture of Melvin Edwards, one of this country's foremost contemporary sculptors, and an African American, strongly rebut the politics of pessimism. Edwards, without fanfare, has long forged cross-cultural influences to produce some of the most powerful and bracing sculpture of our time. He wants his sculpture to work for everyone. An unusual man for our times, Edwards is a passionate person with a big heart for all humanity. While his sculpture is powerful, rugged, and sophisticated, it doesn't intimidate. Neither an inside artworld knowledge nor a liberal arts education is needed to understand and appreciate.
